Acescence Official Website

Acescence is an independent short film shot in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in Canada. The short is adapted from a scene in the novel Shadowlands, written by director Julie Ruffell, and is being developed into a full feature film based on Ruffell's novel.


An estranged mother and daughter meet again, but their lifetime of conflict may have soured their relationship beyond repair.



SHANNEN MELISSA - Laura Blake

Shannen Melissa is a Canadian actress currently living in Surrey, BC. She has trained as an actress for film and theatre for the past four years with various acting coaches including Henry Mah, Bradley Stryker, Andrew McIIroy, Robin Douglas and Linda Darlow.

Shannen's film experience includes: Acescence, Shadowlands, Swallowed Whole, and Under the Apple Box.



PAMELA JONES - Janice Blake

Pamela Jones has been called "a chameleon" for her remarkable ability to change not only her looks, but also her voice and body movements in the creation of compelling, multi-dimensional characters for film and stage.

With a degree in acting from UBC, and an Honours Degree in Broadcasting from BCIT, Pamela has hosted a television series and has appeared in many independent film productions, including Heart of Dance, and Eyes of a Beginner, which won "The Best Feature" honours at the Spirit Quest Film Festival in 2012.

She is also a professional voice actor with her own studio where she voices for clients worldwide.



JULIE RUFFELL - Director/Writer/Editor

Julie Ruffell is a storyteller. Her passion lies in creating characters and worlds, and using them to inspire others. She tells stories as a writer, filmmaker, vidder, web designer, artist, and photographer.

Julie has worked on numerous film productions in a variety of positions, but started creating her own films in 2006, and founded her production company in 2007, which developed into
Kenaz Pictures™ in 2012.

SERENA EADES - Composer/Violinist

Violinist Serena Eades began playing the violin at a young age in her hometown of Roberts Creek, BC. She has received a Bachelor of Music degree through Capilano College and Brandon University having studied with Nancy DiNovo, Ann Elliott-Goldschmid, Kerry Duwors and Tatiana Zatina.

She has played in a number of classical as well as non-classical ensembles including the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, Brandon University Orchestra, Orquesta de Camara and currently for the Kamloops and Prince George Symphonies.

She co-founded the multi-award nominated acoustic ensemble The Rakish Angles. The band blends string band tradition and contemporary imagination as a quartet that weaves an intricate tapestry of mostly original gypsy-jazz, bluegrass, newgrass, jazz, Celtic and Latin sounds.


WALTER SAWAN - Composer

Walter has been writing and recording music since he was 17, though it wasn't until 2011 that he decided to try his hand at making music for film. So far he has found it that is has been a very exciting and uplifting experience, enjoying seeing his art dance perfectly with another person's art.

As a chef of a busy Restaurant Group, where he helps create edible art everyday, Walter works to balance his work as a chef while pursuing a career in making music for film and helping others to express their vision.

In 2012 he did sound design for a conceptual artist (Otino Corsano) in Toronto for his piece for the "Tel.Talk Project" which launched at the Telephone Booth Gallery on Dundas in June.


POLINA VOILER - Hair/Make-Up

Skilled in most fields of beauty, doing makeup comes naturally to Polina, sought after to do Special Effects for film, and has a long waiting list for weddings. When it comes to beauty, perfection is key. Polina has now been appointed Creative Director for Trendy Couture and continues to work on any project that comes her way.
